Beautiful votive tablet of the Buddha Phra Yod Khun dedicated to Wat Bo Kaeow (Phrae).
This votive tablet represents the Buddha seated in the lotus position under his tree, performing the mudra of taking the earth as witness.
This is a recent piece, made according to an ancient model, which became popular during the Indochina War in 1954 because the inhabitants of Phrae discovered a few hundred of these amulets in the ruins of an abandoned temple (Wat Bo Kaeow, also called Wat Ban Pim) some soldiers wore them as pendants as protection during the war and quickly noticed that they were protected from firearms thanks to this Buddha.
Nowadays, the original amulets of this Buddha cost around €1000 each and are almost impossible to find, and Wat Bo Kaeow therefore offers re-editions of these small votive tablets to the faithful.
